Spirit Halloween stores now open in metro Detroit, with more coming soon: What to know

The month of August is a cherished milestone for lovers of the macabre, for it’s the month Spirit Halloween stores nationwide open their doors.

While their online shop remains active year-round, the nation’s largest Halloween retailer opens pop-up brick-and-mortar locations starting in late summer for folks who love to start planning and celebrating the holiday early. Over 50,000 seasonal employees are being hired this season to staff the company’s more than 1,500 retail locations.

"The excitement and enthusiasm of Halloween continues to grow, and as we gear up for another season, we are looking forward to welcoming new associates and store managers to our team," said Steven Silverstein, CEO of Spirit Halloween, in a news release. "Opening over 1,500 retail locations is no small feat, and much of the magic we create for fans each year is thanks to the passion and dedication of our associates who bring the Spirit Halloween experience to life."

While there are no Spirit Halloween stores located directly within the city of Detroit, nearby suburbs and cities do have some. As of press time, there are currently six Spirit Halloween stores within 50 miles of Detroit, with 11 more listed as “opening in August” or “coming soon,” according to the retail website.
