JD Vance headed to Macomb County on Wednesday
Republican vice presidential nominee and U.S. Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will visit Macomb County on Wednesday to speak at the Shelby Township Police Department.
The visit will be Vance's second since becoming former President Donald Trump's running mate and comes on the same day that Vice President Kamala Harris − who is now the Democratic Party's presidential nominee − is also expected to be in metro Detroit on a multistate tour introducing her running mate. Details of that event and another by Harris on Thursday were not yet known.
Vance was expected to speak at 10 a.m. but it was not clear if the event was public.
Vance spoke at a rally with Trump in Grand Rapids on July 20, shortly after the Republican National Convention ended in Milwaukee.
While Trump's campaign did not specifically say what Vance would be speaking about, the news release announcing the visit mentioned high inflation, the large number of undocumented immigrants entering the U.S. and crime during the Biden administration. Inflation has declined substantially in recent months, however, and the Biden administration has taken steps to curtail what had been a huge number of immigrants entering the country illegally. Violent crime is down in the U.S.
The news release parrots false or misleading claims Trump has made in Michigan and elsewhere in the recent past that have been debunked by the Free Press.
Macomb County is considered a key swing area of Michigan, having backed Trump in the last two presidential elections.
