Top 10 Takeover dining series: Tickets available for No. 1 restaurant Coeur in Ferndale
We’re more than halfway through the Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Top 10 Takeover dinner series and some of the highest-ranking restaurants on our list of 2024 10 Best New Restaurants and Dining Experiences are fast-approaching.
Next up: Coeur, the New American restaurant in Ferndale that topped our list, will host guests of the Free Press for an evening that showcases just what landed the hot spot at No. 1.
On July 16, chef-owner Jordan Smith and pastry chef Carla Spicuzzi will prepare two four-course tasting menus — one classic menu and a vegetarian option — each embodying the restaurant’s refined approach to California cooking with a French flair.
Here, diners will taste Smith’s penchant for utilizing simple, seasonal produce, such as asparagus with a Benyuls vinaigrette, braised beef short rib served with sunchokes and purslane and okonomiyaki, or a Japanese-style pancake made with a medley of summer vegetables. Meanwhile, Spicuzzi will end the meal on a sweet note with a stone fruit tart topped with vanilla mousse and a ginger sable.
A seat at the July dinner will run $85, including tax, gratuity and a donation to Forgotten Harvest, a local nonprofit working to fight food insecurity in the Detroit area. Together, the Detroit Free Press, Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers and guests of the Top 10 Takeover events have raised more than $15,000 for Forgotten Harvest since the inception of the dinner series in 2014.
