Downtown Detroit bar and record shop Paramita Sound made USA TODAY’s list of best bars in the country.

The USA TODAY Bars of the Year 2024 list, released today, features 27 bars from dives to high-end cocktail bars.

“When we started in 2014, the idea of opening this record shop initially was justifying a more universal language to connect with people,” said Paramita Sound owner Andrey Douthard. “The goal of what we do at Paramita is to maintain generational connections and so starting as a record shop was us trying to bring people together in the most honest way because my love and my place in this city has always been through the music community.”

USA TODAY Network food journalists live and work in states across the country. They know their communities, and they pooled their expertise to select the list, which includes the places they spend their time and recommend to readers and friends.

Paramita was chosen for its ability to bridge communities across generations and cultural demographics through simple drinks and intentional music programming.
