Why is Snoop Dogg covering the Paris Olympics?
Snoop Dogg is serving as one of NBC's special correspondents for the 2024 Paris Olympics. NBC, NBCUniversal announced that the American rapper, record producer and actor would be part of its Olympic coverage in December during Sunday Night Football.
"I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness," Snoop Dogg said in a press release in December.
"We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate, and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?"
Per NBC's news release, Snoop Dogg's duties as the network and streaming platform's special correspondent will include exploring Paris' iconic landmarks, attending Olympic competitions and events and visiting with athletes and their friends and families in the Olympic Village and around the Olympic Games.
This isn't the first time Snoop Dogg has been part of NBC and Peacock's coverage of the Olympic Games as he joined Kevin Hart for the 2020 Tokyo Games for Peacock's "Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart & Snoop Dogg," where the two highlighted the competition.
In preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Snoop Dogg traveled out to Eugene, Oregon for the Olympic track and field trials to test out his commentating voice. To no one's surprise, Snoop Dogg delivered with some American Treasure, especially in the Steeplechase.
"What we're about to see right now is they're about to get to dipping, gripping, riding, slipping, and hopefully not sliding," Snoop Dog said. "Oh, he jumped on the top of the hurdle. You can do that? That was a cool trick right there. I liked that one. He went off the tippy top.”
