A 42-year-old Warren woman is facing charges in the self-inflicted shooting of a child early Saturday evening.

The 2 ½-year-old child shot himself in the stomach area shortly after 6 p.m., while the woman was babysitting him at a Warren home on the 11000 block of Edgemont Street on Saturday, Warren police said. Two of the defendant's handguns were unsecured and accessible to the child, police said.

April Faith Green of Warren faces multiple charges, including two felonies, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. Green was arraigned in 37th District Court Monday, with a $75,000 cash/surety bond, and upon release must wear a GPS tether, have no contact with anyone under age 17 and surrender any firearms.

"This incident was a direct result of neglectful behavior, and the devastating consequences are a reminder that we must all take the necessary steps to ensure firearms are securely stored from those who should never have access to them," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. "Our thoughts are with the child and their family, and we are committed to seeking justice and preventing such preventable tragedies in the future."

Warren police and fire responded to the scene around 6:06 p.m. Saturday and took the child to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, police said.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 13, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
