A Tuesday traffic crash on Interstate 94 in Van Buren Township has injured three people, Michigan State Police say.

At around 2:00 p.m. the Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls of a rollover crash on westbound I-94 before Belleville Road.

The driver of the passenger car crossed three lanes of traffic in an attempt to make their exit. The car crashed into another vehicle, causing it to roll up the right embankment onto the service drive. The at-fault driver was not injured.

The occupants of the overturned vehicle — an adult and two children — were seriously injured and transported to the hospital, according to MSP.

“We continue to see preventable crashes cause by risky driving behaviors.” said F/Lt Mike Shaw in a news release. “A family received serious injuries because a driver couldn’t just wait to the next exit. Be aware of your location and make smart decisions behind the wheel.”

No suspected alcohol, drugs, or medication was consumed by the at-fault driver, MSP says.

The investigation is still ongoing.
