An early morning, single-car crash Sunday on Michigan Avenue killed two people and injured four others, including a passenger who was hospitalized in critical condition, Dearborn Police said.

Authorities said a Dodge Charger traveling at high speeds on eastbound Michigan Avenue went out of control and crashed into a tree near the Southfield freeway shortly after 2 a.m.

The vehicle was occupied by six individuals between 15 and 20 years old.

The driver, an 18-year-old Dearborn man, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the passengers, a 20-year-old Garden City woman, was taken to an area hospital where she died.

The remaining occupants were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. One passenger remained in critical condition and the rest are being treated for less serious injuries, authorities said.

The Dearborn Police Department is asking anyone who has additional information to call them at 313-943-2275.

“This is a senseless tragedy and our prayers go out to the families of those involved," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said in a news release.

"As we grieve this tragedy, we urge parents to take the time to talk with young drivers about the importance of safe driving," Shahin said. "We need your partnership to help keep this community safe."

This investigation is still ongoing.
